Ageing & Complexion
The skin is the largest organ in the body and the one that presents the most common signs of ageing so it deserves a lot of care and attention. And it is important that we feed the skin properly from within. Japanese researchers discovered that when people with a complexion problem began drinking oolong tea, their skin health improved in as little as one week. After one month, 63 percent of the 118 participants who completed the study showed marked to moderate improvement. The results were published in 2010 in the Archives of Dermatology.
Research has shown that the partial fermentation process of Oolong tea produces a high concentration of polyphenols, which the Japanese researchers credit for healing eczema.
In another study at the University of California people who drank oolong tea on a daily basis experienced a fifty-percent reduction in free radicals within 15 days. Free radicals are damaging substances in the body that contribute to signs of aging, including wrinkles and dark spots that are caused by ultra-violet rays, chemical food additives, pollution and stress. Even teeth can be helped by healthy tea drinking as borne out by a study by the Department of Dentistry at Japan’s Osaka University showed that regular consumption of oolong tea strengthens teeth and helps prevent tooth decay by inhibiting the build-up of plaque.
So if you are worried about your complexion it is well worth drinking several cups of Oolong tea each day.
